Splicing Carousel Solutions for Efficient Gasket Production

In gasket and rubber profile production, the splicing process has a direct impact on output, quality, and operator workload.

NorMec offers carousel solutions for both rubber profile splicing and PE gasket splicing. These systems are designed to make the splicing process more efficient by allowing several profiles or gaskets to be processed at the same time.

What is a Splicing Carousel?

A splicing carousel is a production system with several splicing stations arranged in a carousel layout.

Instead of using one press in a single sequence, the operator can work with several stations in parallel. While one profile is curing or joining, the next profile can be prepared.

This gives better use of operator time and helps create a smoother production flow.

Rubber Profile Splicing Carousel

The NorMec rubber profile splicing carousel is designed to improve the splicing process for rubber profiles.

The carousel can be supplied with 6 to 12 standard presses. The number of presses depends on the curing time of the profiles. The longer the vulcanizing time, the more presses can be used in the carousel.

For improved handling, the carousel can be used with overhead conveyors. The overhead conveyor feeds profiles into the carousel and transports them further after splicing. This reduces manual handling, as the operator mainly inserts and removes the profile from the splicing presses.

The carousel can also be equipped with a film dispenser. The film dispenser automatically feeds the splicing film into the correct position before vulcanizing. This can reduce the splicing process by up to 4 seconds per station and helps avoid extra manual adjustment.

Each splicing press can be set up from the main display on the carousel. This gives the operator a clear and practical way to control the splicing process.

The NorMec Standard Press is delivered in accordance with the CE Directive.

PE Splicing Carousel

The NorMec PE Splicing Carousel is developed for EPDM gasket production.

It is NorMec’s fastest and most flexible PE splicing machine. One operator can control the whole carousel, with output up to 600–1,000 gaskets per hour.

The PE carousel uses infrared heating and polyethylene plastic film. This gives a short cycle time of 30 seconds or less per station.

Each station can join 3 to 6 gaskets at the same time. This makes the machine well suited for high-volume PE gasket production.

The PE carousel can also be delivered with optional automation features, such as:

  • Automatic pick-up of gaskets from the extruder line
  • Automatic trimming of polyethylene flash
  • Robot unloading from the carousel

Compared with a traditional hot vulcanizing carousel, the PE carousel has significantly lower power consumption.

The design is flexible and can be adapted to different production needs. The carousel can be delivered with 4 or 6 stations, depending on the required operational features.

Choosing the Right Carousel

The best carousel solution depends on the product and production process.

For rubber profiles, the main factors are curing time, number of presses, profile handling, and whether a film dispenser or overhead conveyor is needed.

For EPDM gaskets, the main factors are required output, station setup, automation level, and handling before and after splicing.

Both carousel solutions are built around the same idea: to make the splicing process faster, easier to operate, and better suited for industrial production.
